It’s actually more annoying than silly. For the past few months, I have been getting spam emails that advise me that my anti-virus suite has expired. It usually comes, supposedly from a well known on-line retailer on behalf of one of the large anti-virus (AV) companies. It’s not an issue to simply to click on the ‘junk mail’ button and send to offending mail to the deleted folder. No, the issue is the number of emails that are turning up every day.
Up to the current time (13:00) today, I have had 7 of these scams. All purport to come from an online supermarket, but the underlying email address is usually a random address that simply doesn’t exist. The image on the left shows the number of emails that I received in a 3 hour period, in just one address.
The thing that angers me most, is that the supposed AV company does not seem to be interested. Most other companies that I have dealt with, regarding spoof and phishing emails have (or appear to have) a dedicated address to which the offending mail can be forwarded to for investigation. This particular AV company only accepts the email if it has been added as an attachment. Not good enough. There is a huge amount of embedded information in an email that is not available if the mail is sent as an attachment.
The interesting thing (if you can call it interesting) is that I have never had a anti-virus subscription and definitely would never pay for one.
As a part of this “Blogging 201”, the three goals I intend to aspire to are:
- Increase number of comments;
As of today’s date (20/09/2014) I have a total of 154 comments on the posts I have made. My goal/aspiration is to increase this by 20% by the end of October. My ultimate goal would be to have comments on every post I make.
- Increase the regularity of my posts;
My currents postings are random and occur as and when I feel like writing something. I intend to start a routine of posting twice a week
- Start blogging with a theme;
The problem, I feel with random posts is that there is no continuity. This I believe could be the reason for the lack of comments. So the goal here is to identify a theme. One that I either have an opinion or one that I have a good knowledge of.
The second goal is the easiest. Goal three would be quite a challenge, but could, if done well help achieve goal number 1.
Today went as well as it should have. No problems with the handhelds over the weekend, which is a good thing. I thought we may had an issue with one of them, but it seems to have either corrected itself, or more likely it was an user error. Everyone seemed to be in a happier mood than usual. It is not good really, when a managers staff enjoy his holiday more than he does !!!!!
R*** was back from his respite today, and he is still very much the same as he went. Still the random attacks without any apparent reason. One minute anger, the next laughing.
Managed to get some music and some ringtones on my phone today. It is not the same as the old phone, as it is a completely different operating system. So the way I managed the files before bears no resemblance to the way I do now. The Nokia PCSuite will not connect via bluetooth, which is odd, so I have to use the USB cable, or connect through the Blue Soleil bluetooth manager. Only another two days to go, before I am able to utilise the full package. What’s the betting, I don’t use it to it’s full potential. I think I may use the calendar option though … we shall see.
The new TV is performing well. We found out how to get the radio on through the Freeview, and how to use it a picture frame. I am going to put some pictures on a memory stick, and see if we can get a slide show.
Still no Skype call from S****. He knows his mum wants to say hello, but he seems to be avoiding the issue. He was on MSN yesterday, but seemed to go offline when I went online. All it takes is for him to sign in for a while, and she would be happy. Well for a while anyway. I wonder if he has got a job yet. I texted him, but no reply as yet. With me still not used to this phone, I don’t know if he got the message.
Right, I think that is enough for one day.
