Just a quick update

First thing to say, is “I have a new phone!!”  It’s not that I needed a new phone, but my contract had come to the end of the two year minimum, and my Sony-Xperia-Tprovider gives the chance of an upgrade. There was nothing wrong with the old one, but the new one has a more modern styling, more storage, better range of applications and the new contract, whilst costing a little more, is more suitable for my needs. It is not the latest model, by a long way, but it is still a good phone. To get the latest, would have cost me over £34.00 a month, with an upfront cost of £49.00. Not worth it.

I didn’t mention previously, that we are having our ensuite updated, or more to the point, completely replaced. Mrs H was wanted it doing for a long time, and the breaking point came, when the shower packed in. Our usual ‘handy-man’ fitted a new one, but it never worked properly. According to the people fitting out the new room, it was totally the wrong type. It never occurred to me to do any before/after photos, so the only one I have is a ‘during’ picture. I will try and remember to do an ‘after’ picture when it is all done. As you can imagine, there are quite a few downsides to the whole project. The biggest two are, the dust, and Mrs H’s dread of taking a bath. In all the years we have been married, I can only think of a very few occasions that she has taken a bath. Always a shower. It has usually been, when we had showers installed/replaced or when we have been away. I prefer a bath to a shower. I love to just lie there and soak, with a nice drink and a good book (don’t try it with a Kindle though.)

Latest news on the job front, is basically not much more than I knew last month. We’ve been assured, that there are more jobs to fill than staff to fill them, so it’s not a cost cutting exercise. We’ve also been told (not assured) that they are not looking to change grading system, so I suppose, that there is not too much to worry about. My main concern is where we will be based. Seven years ago, when our service moved out of the city centre to an industrial estate just off the M1 KAmotorway, I bought a small car. Using public transport would have meant two buses each way, with ten minutes waiting time between. Although a car is more expensive than public transport, it is far more reliable and convenient. One of the rumours is that we may move back to the city centre, to have a more central base. this would either mean, back to the bus, or pay out over £100.00 a month in car park fees. Now I know that does not sound a lot for city centre parking, but that is the charge in one of the council run multi-storey car parks. The charge has just been reduced from £9.00 to £5.00 all day to attract business. I’m worried, that once the business starts to pick up again, the the council will increase to price again!! We are having a team meeting on Thursday, so may hear a bit more then. It it quite typical of council managers to drip feed information, which has the effect of feeding the rumour mongers. I will update as and when.

Cold !!!!!

I’ve given up…the heating is on. I don’t usually put it on during the day, but I have succumb this once. It’s been really cold over the past two days. The ground frost never cleared at all yesterday, and it was quite P1010286eerie driving, early this morning, through the frost laden mist. Still hasn’t cleared yet. Just been out (14:30) P1010283and took a couple of photos in the fields. Should have gone first thing when I got back.

Talking of eerie, it was very strange picking S**** up last night. It was his friends birthday yesterday, and S**** had been invited to do what is colloquially called ‘The Garforth Gallon’. Basically, a pub crawl, where you have a pint of beer/ale/lager in each of eight pubs in the town of Garforth. For those who may not know, a ‘pub crawl’ is an expression used when you visit a number of public houses in one session. Anyway, he went out around 1pm, and was out all day and evening. I went to pick him up at around 10:30pm. It is not far, only about 10 minutes from home, but the motorway (M1) was quite spooky and quiet. I have not driven in that direction, at that time of night before, so it was an experience. When I got to Garforth though, it was very different ….busy, noisy even rowdy, with a police presence, larger than I’ve seen outside Leeds City centre. The police presence may have had something to do with the alleged murder that had taken place in the afternoon http://preview.tinyurl.com/7kj7u7a. Still he had had a good time, was able to get up for work this morning.

I have just finished reading ‘Little 15’ by Stephanie Saye and did a review on Amazon (UK) you can find it here http://amzn.to/xiNTLX. I very much enjoyed the book, and would recommend it to anyone. It is the only book, I have actually bought for the Kindle, and it was well worth it.

All went well ….

The weekend in The Lakes went quite well, although, I’m not sure how you can spend nearly three days in the souThe hillsthern lakes area, and only visit Bowness !!!! The ‘Lodge’ was better then expected. You see, from the brochure, it all looked a little bit … ‘up-market’ would be an appropriate phrase. However, when we got there, it was a lot more homely than we thought. The weather was excellent, and could not have P1010126been better. The views were amazing, as we seemed to be situated, half way up the side of one of the hills. There were some really beautiful sky views in the evening. I quite enjoy taking photos of the cloud formations in the evening. Especially when the sun is quite red. The colours can be quite stunning.

R*** coped very well, considering that we left within minutes of him getting back from school. It was lucky, that the place had free Wi-Fi, and we were able to set up his laptop. He spent most of the time sat at his computer !!! Only had one blip, and I’m afraid, that was probably our fault. We were having dinner on Sunday evening. R*** was at his computer, in another room (he doesn’t eat what we eat and generally does not eat with us. It is too stressful for him.) He kept popping into the dining room, and asking to play his game ‘Hide and Seek’. Everyone kept telling him, that we would play after we had finished. So what happened ?? We finished dinner, and almost everyone disappeared before he could start his game !!!! No wonder he got upset. So would I!!

The travelling was a bit of a nightmare. Google Maps (good old Google) told us it would take us about two and a half hours, which is what we expected. However, given that we were setting off at around 4pm, we were expecting a bit of slow heavy traffic. What we did not expect, was that a journey that would normally take 25 minutes, took us nearly an hour. Then we had to detour into Settle, as the bypass was closed because of an accident. So all in all, the journey took over three and a half hours. Coming back was not much different. Slow traffic and road closures, not to mention the idiot that thought it was okay to drive around narrow country roads at over 30 mph and clip the wing mirror. They claimed it was our fault, and that we were in the middle of the road (we were on a blind bend doing about 20mph if that). They were still going too fast for the conditions.

Halfway ….

Well, that’s Saturday over, and it’s not been a bad day. Youngest has been fine, if a little loud, for most of the day, with no real problems at all. Mrs H dropped a bombshell this morning, when she asked me to take him for his hair cutting !! This would not normally be a problem, but the way he has been for the past few weeks, meant that I was dreading it. However, he surprised me, and trip went very well.

Managed to get to mow the lawn today. Now that usually is a chore. What normally happens is, that the weekend weather usually prevents me from cutting the grass, until it has got too long. Then, with copious amounts of bad language, I spend a good one and a half hours, trying to cut the damn stuff. I also sorted out my little ‘greenhouse’ and planted some Dahlia seeds. May plant some salad leaves tomorrow, if the weather holds.

I now have a new page on here, that has a few photos from our last holiday. They are not the best pictures, but for a first attempt, I don’t think I did too bad.

I posted a status comment on facebook today, whilst I was in the garden. It basically said “……has cut the grass, and is now chopping out some dead wood (why does work spring to mind ??)……”. This seems to have caused a little upset, with some of my colleagues  …… ha ha ha. Just need Doris Day singing “The Deadwood Stage” as my ringtone to finish them off, and I will have lost all my work friends … ha ha ha.

Day seven …

It’s true …… been doing a daily blog for seven days (pat self on back.) When I started last Sunday, I had no idea, that I could do three days in a row, let alone seven.

I have a new header picture. It was one I took on my mobile phView from Windmill Roadone a few weeks ago. Mrs H and me were out for a walk, and I liked the colours. It was up on Windmill Road, which has quite a steep incline if you walk it from Clifford. I took two photos and this is the second one. They are not bad picture, to say they are from a mobile.

No walk today. The rain just made it a no go. I went to the pub at lunch time (again). I needed to get away. G*** and her bloody phone was driving me nuts. How difficult can it be to swap a phone ???? Of course it was not her fault … everybody else was at fault.

The drive home was a bit scary. The rain was very heavy in parts on the A1, and most vehicles were driving with care. Of course there was the odd exception. The usual ‘loonies’ in their 4×4’s, driving like idiots in the outside lane.

It’s the school fayre tomorrow. Me and the youngest will not go. He cannot really cope with these days, and if I’m honest, I cannot cope either. And I suppose it’s not really fair on him…we’ve been telling him all week, that Friday is his last day.

York - nightime Eldest seems to have had a good time in York last night. Mrs H said, that he absolutely stank of booze this morning. He does not have a clue when he went to bed, but then again, when I was that age, I think I had nights like that…but I don’t remember.

My new MSN friend, J**** came back yesterday. It’s nice to chat again. I’ve just said, that it is strange to think, that 3 weeks ago, we just said ‘hello/how are you/goodbye’ in chat and now we chat properly most nights.

That’s it for now.

Having a problem thinking of a title here……..

The Germany trip seemed to go very well. They all got back safely, and from all accounts, a good time was had by all. From the looks of his photos, there was a lot to do and see. I’m quite jealous now. I have a massive admiration for his teachers. All the kids are different and have different needs, but the teachers are so confident and laid back, that worrying was not an option (still did though, and would probably worry next time.)

I had a few days off, so that was good. Lunch out a couple of times, and managed to get a few jobs done. We were lucky with the weather for some of the time. Me and Mrs H did the quiz on our own last Tuesday. That was odd. We got a reasonable score, for us, and Mrs H had a joint win on the bingo. So now we have all three won that once, it must be time to win the Footie Card again.

Eldest lad has broken up with his girlfriend, so that is a bit of a downer for him. He says he is cool with it, but he must be …… well you know. I think it has been on the cards for a week or two now though. He is quite wrapped up in his drama this week. It’s an important major role this time. Second lead, and I think it may be his last role until after Uni finishes. He may find it difficult to get to rehearsals after he moves into his flat. The insurance we took out for him to drive, ran out last week, so he has not been able to drive since. Is that a factor in his break-up, or just a coincidence ?? I don’t know if me and the eldest will get to the quiz on Tuesday. He may have some more rehearsals. The shows first night is on Wednesday, so it may be pushing it.

I got my email to Computing’s ‘backbytes’ published. Of course I cannot show it where a certain person may see it, but it can be found here if you want a look http://tinyurl.com/muuetl. Last paragraph is mine. It only means anything if you know who Spike is, and what he is like (the link should be a ‘permalink.) I do like the Firefox add-on, that creates TinyUrl’s. Very clever

The storm blew out the majority of our power sockets at work today. As soon at the computers went down, they started…..”We can go home now…nothing to do”. God they are pathetic. all they seem to live for is excuses to stop work. I would lay money on it being a different case, if the buggers were on overtime when the power went off…… any takers.

The garden is looking quite good at the moment. My dahlias are coming on well, although a couple seem to be having bug problems. The Rocket that I planted 2 weeks ago is coming on well. I just need to ensure Mrs H does not eat it, before it is ready. I want to try growing peas, but in a container. As I understand it. the pot needs to be at least 6 to 8 inches deep, and the pea needs to be a bush variety. I will look into this further.

11:00 pm, and the youngest his having ‘an episode’. He’s been fine all day, except a bit at tea-time, but we have come to expect that. Latest thinking from ‘the experts’ is that his brothers moving out is ‘having an effect’. Where do these people get their ideas from. He would not know if his brother had moved out years ago. It would not have an ‘effect’. Autism doesn’t not allow kids like him to express that kind of emotion. And anyway, he has been like this a long time before his brother decided to move out. Experts…I would not pay them out in book tokens.
