Mrs H bought me the new PC speaker system I wanted. It looks better than the last one and has a much better sound. I can now alter the bass tones, which I was not able to do before. So well satisfied am I.
It was quite foggy this morning when I set off. The A1 access road was really dense, but as soon as I hit the motorway, the fog lifted. It did not make the fools turn off their rear fog lights though. I think it is just laziness. The car was quite frozen too, which was a surprise, because from the living room window, it did not look frosty.
Still having problems with my Asda credit card. I tried to get some petrol yesterday morning, and the pump would not accept the card. It was a good job I had my MBNA card, or else I would have been stuck. I think I’m going to cancel this card. I only got the thing because I could save 2p a litre on petrol and get points. But they stopped the points in 2008, and dropped the saving to 1p a litre last year, so it’s not really worth it.
I got home in good time tonight. The roads were a lot quieter than was anticipated. I had visions of 10 miles queues on the A1, after the problems last year. This morning was quiet too, although going north, the A1 was very slow and crowded. The Leeds Festival gates opened at 3am this morning, and as I understand it, there was a steady flow from about that time. S**** was dropped of at his friends house, around noon, and they were going from there. Although the whole thing does not get going until tomorrow, there seems to be some music playing this evening. It will be a bit of a test tomorrow afternoon. I need some petrol, and both the petrol stations that I use are on the A64. Not a road I want to go on, as part of it will be still be closed. I also need a haircut, and the hairdresser’s is also on the same route.
Never got around to installing the new RAM this evening. It looks like it might be over the weekend sometime. I also need to work out when I should download the Office 2007 software. I think it may be a good idea to try on Sunday night, before the Bank Holiday. Still cannot get over the price. I hope that it downloads at a reasonable speed. I have an idea that download speeds sometimes depend on the site they are being downloaded from. It can take ages sometimes to grab a YouTube video.
My new phone seems to have a lot better signal in the office. I have only noticed a signal loss a couple of times, and considering where I sit, and the amount of metal cupboards and electrical kit around me, I’m surprised I get a signal at all. Talking of electrical stuff, we have the Portable Appliance Tester (PAT) with us this week. And before anyone asks ‘Portable Appliance’ refers to desktop electrical equipment such as computers, desk fans etc, not ………although I do not know how portable a three drawer laser printer is. Well, it has to be the most boring job an electrician can be asked to do. As far as I can see, it is only the cables that get tested anyway. But it takes the guy forever. It’s my desk tomorrow. The last time, it took the tester nearly an hour to get through all my stuff, and he’d been doing it for years. The man we have today, has only been on this since last week !!!!
Done for today.
I did the bike ride !!!! Must have been about six miles. Along the access road (keeping to the newly made foot/cycle/bridle path), up Spen Common Lane to Headley Hall, down the bridle path (passing a few bricks on the way), then along Aberford Road, down Church Hill and home. Knackered !!I think I may alternate between walking and cycling. My calves feel like iron.
C**** is coming in to say hello tomorrow. It will be good to see her again. I may even take the plunge and go into town on the bus. Go out for lunch. But then again, that could ruin my ‘grumpy old man’ image. But who knows.
Here is an odd thing (just to change the subject). My car seems to be doing, more miles to the gallon/litre these days. Take today for instance. The odometer showed that I had done 300 miles since the last fill up. Now that is usually, the number of miles before I fill up, give or take 5 miles or so. However, at 300 miles, the petrol gauge showed just over 1/8 of a tank left, or an equivalent of 35 miles. My theory is that, the warm weather (?) means the engine does not take as long to warm up, and so uses less juice. However, I do seem to be driving more miles these past few weeks.
I’m now on the NaBloPoMo blogroll, so I may get a little more traffic coming my way. hope this is not too boring for you all.
It did not start well. The youngest lad up at 4:30am. He was in and out of our room for his ‘cuddles’ about every half hour. I reset the alarm clock for 7:00am, thinking I would be off at just after 7:40am. However, I had not banked on the frost. To make matters worse, the ‘de-icer’, that was a good price is a bit rubbish. The spray is so fine, that it just does nothing at all. So it took 20 minutes to get the car into a sufficiently safe state to drive. I was a little worried that I was low on juice, but the light was not on, so no problems. As soon as I hit the motorway, on came the light. The petrol gauge was hovering just a fraction above empty. So with fingers crossed I got to work. Just had to worry about getting home now, but there are plenty of service stations on the way home.
I thought I had trashed my mobile tonight. I had tried to send a ‘flash’ movie file (.flv) by bluetooth, but it was taking such a long time, that I cancelled the transfer. After that, nothing on the phone would work. Literally nothing was working. A bit of panic was staring to set in as I had no idea what the problem was, or what I could do even. I tried everything I could think of, but as soon as the the phone started, it crashed. I then had a random thought, and changed the memory card for the older one. Hey presto, as if by magic, the damn thing worked as normal. I was able to then delete the offending file from the phone memory and then replace the memory again. Job done. So now I’m puzzled. Why should changing the memory card allow the phone to work again ? Is there a link between the internal phone memory and the card ? Do I really care ? I think not.
The catering department are selling ‘bacon n sausage’ butties tomorrow. They are a good price, cheaper than the van by about 60p. It all depends on whether they are a comparable size. They say the baps are ‘floured’ baps, so I hope they are not those dinner bun size. That would be a bit small. Never mind, I will give it a try once and report back.
Speaking of reporting back, I made a start on the biography today and as promised, I read chapter one. It has started very well, and I’m enjoying it already. A friend has read it and says it gets better as it progresses.
