An interesting weekend …

In fact, a very interesting weekend. So interesting for us, that I feel it is worth posting about. As I mentioned earlier, K*** has had a problem with her eyes and this has led to her spending much of the weekend trying to rest. She threw a sickie today as she didn’t think she would be able to cope at work, and it was probably a good idea. She is still in pain and and is still seeing the ‘floaters’ at the side of her head. She is going to ring the hospital tomorrow to find out if this is normal. She tells me that it seems to be improving, but only slightly and we don’t appear to have a time frame for improvement.

Now comes the interesting bit! R*** has been a real help. We rarely get a weekend where we do not have an issue with him. The usual issues range from a shouting episode to a full blooded melt-down and we always have a least one issue each day. But not this weekend. There has been nothing. He has been laughing, smiling, singing and generally having a good time. Of course there has been the odd time when he has been a little ‘grabby’ and squeezed my arm, but that has been when I’ve done, or attempted to do, something he did not want to do. And, the squeezing has been a kind of warning squeeze rather than the usual forceful type.

We have come to the conclusion, that he is somehow aware that his mum is not well and this has had some kind of ‘compliance’ effect on him. It maybe that he is just in a good mood, and that nothing has upset him this weekend, but it does seem very unusual, albeit in a good way.

He is on respite tomorrow and will be back on Friday and we will have to see how that goes. It is usually ‘okayish’ and there doesn’t seem to be too many issues, but it will be interesting to see if this current mood continues.

That’s all for now. Just a little update that I had to share.

Where did the week go ……

Well, it must be an age thing, as I just don’t know what happened to this week. Where to start……Nothing much has happened really. Saturday was more or less a quite day. S**** came up for the evening. It was that music gig at the Albion in Clifford. It’s called Strawberry Jam (?) and is basically a getting together (hence the Jam) of some local musicians and singers, in a local pub. It is organised by a local girl, and is good fun.

S**** went on to a party afterwards and arrived home at about half past six on Sunday morning, with the tale of drinking Vodka and stuff, in a hot-tub, with about seven others !!!!! He has no idea what happened to his wet underwear (they did wear underwear, I understand.) He appears to have enjoyed it.

Quiz-nite tomorrow. S**** is not coming up until Wednesday, so it would be me and Mrs H, if we go. I’m not too sure that I want to go, after last week. Saying that though, I don’t suppose I can let an idiot spoil, what has become a part of my life these days. Decided, we shall go to the quiz !!!!

R*** is on respite this week, and me and Mrs H are quite thankful for the break. He has really been up and down over the past few weeks. I think his mouth must have been hurting on holiday, and he has a sore lip at the moment. The problem we have, is that he cannot tell us that it hurts … he cannot communicate that feeling or emotion. If you ask him it hurts, he will say yes, even if there is no pain. It’s a dilemma, and sometime we have to err on the side of caution.

A long week

Youngest only on a third of his medication again, and everyone seems to be coping okay. Now here is an odd thing. His consultant, an expert (?) told us that there is no problem if we do not give him his medication, as it is not the type that has to be given. However, the doctor at school is of the opinion, that we should only reduce the dose gradually ! Who is correct ?

The eldest is coming home for the night tomorrow. We are both hopefully going to a gig at a pub in the next village. There are four acts, and one of them is a local girl, that we both know from the drama group. I hope he does not think I’ll be going early doors. I was thinking of going around 08:30pm, and stopping for a couple of hours. I have the feeling, he may want to stop until the very end, and then some. Would not be at all surprised if I come home on my own. Mrs H will not be pleased at that !!

Mrs H’s dental pain seems to have eased a little today. At least she doesn’t look as ill as she has done for the past week. I reckon that by the end of Saturday night, the pain will have receded into a dull background ache.

No let up ….

Mrs H still in pain, although I think we both slept a lot better last night. She said that she only seemed to wake up once. The trouble I’ve found, with dental pain, is that it is so intense, that you don’t really notice that the pain is getting less. Then, you wake up and it’s just a background ache. Mind you, I have never had the trouble or pain that Mrs H has, when she has had invasive dental treatment. Even when I had all my top dentures fitted and eight teeth extracted, the only pain I had lasted a couple of days.

Youngest seems to be doing well with his medication reduction. He has only been having a third of his daily dosage, and he seems to be quite settled with that. I don’t know how school is coping with it. They have not indicated that there is a real problem, except that he seems to take a long time with his lunch. They should see how long it takes at home sometimes!!

Now, here is a ball ache, Microsoft Internet Explorer !!! even thought I never use IE, I have to apply the latest patch. This will fix the ‘vulnerability’ that allowed the Chinese to hack Google. The problem is that IE is so deeply embedded into the Windows operating system. I can see the next ‘Patch Tuesday’ will try and get me to install the latest version, IE8.

Not good….

Mrs H is not in a good way. She has got an infection where her tooth was extracted last week, and the pain killers are not doing a thing to help. She’s been given more antibiotics, stronger ones, but they will not really help with the pain. By my reckoning, it will be late Friday or even Saturday, before the pain starts to improve. Looks like she is in for a bad night again.

We watched the National Television Awards. I have to say, some of the categories seemed a little strange. I mean, since when has Loose Women been a ‘factual’ programme ? It’s an entertainment programme, isn’t it ?

I read today, that you can use Word 2007 as a blogging tool, so I thought I would give it a go. No luck. Message was that I was unable to register my blog with Office. I don’t need it, as this Windows Live Writer, does a pretty good job, but it is always better to have more than one way to do anything.
