1st day down …

Well, not technically true. Technically, today is my last day and tomorrow will be the “1st” day. I didn’t want to go into work for one day, so I managed to save up some time and take a ‘flexi’ day. But to all intents and purposes, today was the first day of my retirement! Now, how old does that make me feel?

Didn’t do much really. Went to the bank, did a bit of shopping, washed my car … oh and had my hair cut. Haircut? For nearly a year now, I’ve been growing my hair longer. In fact, I’ve not had it cut for about nine months. It all started, around November time last year. Our ‘team’ were on one of our ‘away-days’ or it may have been a training day. At lunch time I had gone out and  when I returned, I received a text message, just before I entered the training room. As I was expecting the text, I stopped to read it. I then over heard someone joking about the length of my hair and then everything went quite when it went in. Now I don’t care if people take about me behind my back and I don’t  mind if they laugh at me. What I hate is when they do it and then try and pretend that they didn’t. Which was what happened in this case. So I made the random decision to grow my hair long. My intention was to just let it grow and grow to make them feel bad or guilty . However when I put in for early retirement, I decided that my long hair would go when I finished. Hence, todays haircut.

So all in all, the first (or pre-retirement) day went well and now I must et down to the task of finding and getting that part time job. I need to get one soon, before I get out of the work habit. The next few weeks are critical in that search I think.

Happy haircut

Well that was fun. R*** did not want to go at all, but to do him justice, he went along in the end, without too much fuss. Until we got there of course. It wasn’t full, but some of the people in there were a little loud, which upset him a bit. I spent the next ten minutes with him digging his fingers into every tender part of my arm and hand. This is one of the more usual methods of showing his annoyance. Once in the chair, then he changed a lot. He simply sat there and let the girl cut his hair. They are all used to him after all these years, but he suddenly decided to echo back, what the girl had said, in a high pitched voice. The whole hairdressers found it highly amusing, which of course, made him keep on saying it. In the end, it went very well.

Halfway ….

Well, that’s Saturday over, and it’s not been a bad day. Youngest has been fine, if a little loud, for most of the day, with no real problems at all. Mrs H dropped a bombshell this morning, when she asked me to take him for his hair cutting !! This would not normally be a problem, but the way he has been for the past few weeks, meant that I was dreading it. However, he surprised me, and trip went very well.

Managed to get to mow the lawn today. Now that usually is a chore. What normally happens is, that the weekend weather usually prevents me from cutting the grass, until it has got too long. Then, with copious amounts of bad language, I spend a good one and a half hours, trying to cut the damn stuff. I also sorted out my little ‘greenhouse’ and planted some Dahlia seeds. May plant some salad leaves tomorrow, if the weather holds.

I now have a new page on here, that has a few photos from our last holiday. They are not the best pictures, but for a first attempt, I don’t think I did too bad.

I posted a status comment on facebook today, whilst I was in the garden. It basically said “……has cut the grass, and is now chopping out some dead wood (why does work spring to mind ??)……”. This seems to have caused a little upset, with some of my colleagues  …… ha ha ha. Just need Doris Day singing “The Deadwood Stage” as my ringtone to finish them off, and I will have lost all my work friends … ha ha ha.

Weekend … what weekend ?

Well nothing much happened over the weekend. I did the run around with the Christmas presents, for my family, on Saturday. That took all of 2 hours. Great fun, I don’t think !!!

Sunday at home, then into Leeds to pick up the eldest, who is stopping here for Christmas. He is going back on the 2nd or 3rd of January he says. Well his washing should be done by then !!! He has now dyed his hair RED !!!! Saying that, it was his Mum that dyed it. The jury is still out I’m afraid. At the moment, it looks like he has not washed out the make-up from the panto. I suppose it will grow on me.

The scheduled routine on the computer, at work, that was supposed to run over Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening did not work. I had my doubts when the IT guy suggested running it from a batch file. I did everything I should. My PC was left switched on. We will see what the IT man has to say in the morning. I have a strong suspicion, that one of the staff, may have been logged in, and that may have caused the problem.

I had a lot of printing to do today. Some of it I could have left for next week, but I thought I might as well get it done. About 3,500 printed pages, and there is still another 300 to do. Over the next couple of days, I’m going to try and get everything that needs doing this week, done. I do not want to do much at all on Thursday.

I think, I have just about finished Christmas shopping now. Although, I’m sorely tempted to get some Grand Marnier. I’ve got 14 presents in total, which is not bad to say, i had no idea what to get.

May not post tomorrow night. I think me and the eldest are going to the pub-quiz in the village. I also have to get my hair cut. I should have gone on Friday, but what with the bad weather, I thought I would leave it until Saturday. But Saturday came and went, and I could not really be bothered. It needs doing though, so it is either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Another weekend done …..

Back to work tomorrow, and I have a job list as long as my arm for the week. There is the extra job of reprogramming some the handhelds. I as kind of expecting it really. Although they will tell me different, I feel that some of them were being updated on battery power. As the update takes just over an hour, and the unit’s time out after 5 minutes, running on battery power will cause a fail. Still, if they get them to me first thing, I can have them back out in the field by afternoon.

Youngest has been in a strange kind of mood today. Last week he needed no medication at all, for two days. This weekend, completely the opposite. Mind you, he only had two out of the three doses each day, but you could see the difference. I hope this is not an indication of what we can expect on Christmas Day !!!!!

A few things to organise tomorrow. I need to book a dental appointment, for sometime either this week or the next. As it is a 12:00ish appointment, it should not be difficult to fit it in this week. I also need a haircut. It is getting a bit straggly at the moment. At some point in the week, I need to make an appointment to have an induction in the gym, at the leisure centre. I need to get some form of exercise program, to help lose a few inches off my waist. I need to get back to at least a 34in waist (which is what I try and kid myself I am now), maybe 32in would not go a miss. I have this idea, that a rowing machine would help, together with a treadmill. We shall see, but I need to do something. Cutting down on the junk food will help too.

End of BST

It’s been quite a good day. Out with the youngest this morning for a haircut. He was really good. We had about a 20 minute wait, and he was no problem at all. It is a lot different from the first few times we used to go, when he just would not let them do anything. Mind you, they know him now, and know exactly what he is like, and are really good with him.

Just been changing all the clocks. Well I think I’ve changed them all. Here’s hoping that R*** does not wake up at 5am again, like this morning. It has been between 7am and 7:30am when he has woken up all week. Then it’s my day off and the little devil is awake at 5am. Give him his due though, he did not want anything until about 7:30am.

Leeds Utd got beat at Millwall, so that did not go down too well. Their unbeaten record has gone now. It was good while it lasted. I just hope it does not knock their confidence.

X factor was strange tonight. I only saw the first half, but it had Louis and Simon debating whether U2’s ‘With or Without You’ was a ‘Big Band’ song. But one singer sang ‘Proud Mary’, by Creedence Clearwater Revival which is not a ‘Big Band’ sound either. Get your house in order I say !!

It’s the weekend …..

Beloved little one was up at around 5:30 this morning (little horror). The eldest is away with his girl so I had no need to be up early. Then off for a haircut. Now this used to be everybody’s worst nightmare, 10 years ago. Now he just takes it in his stride. It was a little worrying though, as there seemed to be 6 people in front of us. Still he waited patiently until it was his turn. On the spur of the moment I had mine done. Normally, the girl that cuts mine takes between 5 and 7 minutes. ToMy Grow Houseday someone different did it and it took 15 minutes. He was done 5 minutes before me, but yet again he was very patient.

After a bit of shopping in the shopping centre, it was off to the supermarket to get a few flowers for Mothers Day.

Had a quick water of the seeds and cuttings in my ‘Grow house. I left the door open for a couple of hours, just to get some air in. I have not got a clue what I’m doing, but hopefully, the seeds and cuttings do know. I’m looking forward to when I can take cuttings of things like Fuchsia and the like. I also would like to have a bash at bedding Dahlias again.
