Cut price knitting …

We visit charity shops quite often. Wetherby has ten charity shops that I know about and there may possibly be another one. Often when we go, I’m on the lookout for knitting yarn. I don’t need any as my wife will confirm, but if it’s a bargain, then I’m up Wetherby (2)for it. Trouble is, yarn does not seem to be very cheap in these type of shops. Most have some, but it is usually small amounts of left-overs and you never know what type it is (unless you’re a real expert). You can usually tell if its wool or acrylic, but without the band, I wouldn’t know if it was Aran or Double Knit. So although I look, I rarely buy any.

A couple of weeks ago, I was in one of the really popular shops and noticed that there was a bag of yarn that had five new balls and a couple of end scrap balls. It was very reasonably priced Yarnespecially for the amount at £3.50. I was tempted, really tempted and had almost decided when I felt a tap on the shoulder. I stood up and turned round, thinking it was my wife. Turned out to be a rather well dressed lady who was holding one of those long women’s cardigans that were fashionable some years ago. She smiled and asked if the yarn I was looking at was for me. I told her it was, but I wasn’t sure if to buy it. She handed me the cardigan and told me that this was a better buy. I was about to say that I didn’t want a cardigan, when she pre-emptied my thoughts. “You can get this cardigan for only £3.99. It has about 10 times the wool you have there, and there is a wash-care label still inside!” she said. She then explained how she never bought wool in charity shops and only every bought made-up woollen clothes which she would unpick (I think the term is frogging) and re-use.

It sounds a brilliant idea, but I’m not sure if I could ever “rip back” or “frog” such a large piece of clothing.

Only a week and one day ….

The above refers to a celebration, of which I will speak no further. Them that know, know!

So that’s Sunday over. The quick walk to the pub was a none starter, as expected. In fact, it may have been that thought that set the youngest off last night. Just before midnight, and he’s getting worked up. Then he was up at 6am, still fretting about something. He eventually calmed, but the little bit of a lie-in was gone. Saying that though, we did not get any ‘episodes’ to speak of at all. Fingers crossed. However, he is on respite from tomorrow, and he has just said that he does not want to go. A bit half hearted though, so maybe he is just saying it because we expect him to.New desk lamp (sad I know)

My new desk lamp seems to be a great hit with every-one.  The last one I had for, well must be 10 years, and it used very small halogen bulbs,of which I have 15 in the garage. I bought a job lot at B&Q at 3 for £1.00, when they were reduced to 25p for three.  Stuck with them now, but it was a bargain at the time. !!

Software house rang back on Friday. Seventeen minutes past five !!!! I raised the call on Wednesday, and it was not until about ten thirty on Friday morning that good old W**l rang me to ‘clarify the problem’. At the end of the call, I don’t think he had got what the problem was. I know why they leave it until after five. They can then say, that they tried to solve the problem, but we were not available. So it gives then 4/5 days to solve the problem, but it is our fault that it was not solved sooner. Happens every time.

No-one to chat to tonight !!! I’m feeling very left out. INoesis chat cannot believe that there is no-one on MSN. I’m considering going into the  ‘Chat’ for a while. Just to see if there is anyone in that I know.

Well that was a waste of time …… only one person in that I know, and they were not chatting. Is it something I said/didn’t say/do ??

I wonder if my pedometer pack will turn up this week. I’m supposed to start recording steps from the 1st August. I hope I can keep it up, which reminds me. I must have a walk sometime tomorrow. Mind you, with the youngest being away, I may have company. I may also end up in the pub, half way round again. I got details of the ‘running club’. It sounds a little bit too much for me at the moment. I may have to break myself in gently, although I’ll need to get some kit even before the gentle stuff.

All done.

Better put the bin out……

I feel quite tired tonight. It must be du to trying to sleep with one ear open, listening for the eldest to go to bed. He has to be up at 7:15 this morning, but he was still chatting to D*** at 3am. D** finally went home at 3:15. Eldest looked like death warmed up and gone cold this morning. Apparently, he did not look much better this evening. I know he’s young, but even so. He is out with the ‘ex’ and her mother tonight. They have gone to see Blood Brothers in Leeds. I hope he catches to last bus.

Work is still work. Getting grief from ‘kid’ engineers, who know little about nothing. But good ole Spike to the rescue …. all is serene. What would we do without him. Answers on a postcard no later than Thursday…… It is quite annoying, when you have been doing something for many years, without any issues, and some little upstart comes along and tries to belittle you.

No ‘work out’ today. It was raining at lunchtime, and I just could not be bothered when I got home. I’d been to Asda, as I had seen Jim Beam at £10.00 a bottle on Monday. Of course, the offer had finished by the time I went today. I really must learn to impulse buy sometimes, when there are good bargains to be had. It was the same with the shorts I saw at half price. by the time I had decided that it was a good price, they were back up to full price again. Missed out on a linen shirt for the same reason.

I think that is just about it for tonight. Must remember to put the dustbin out though …
