There are three films that I can watch over and over again. There’s ‘Gone With The Wind’, ‘La Vie En Rose’ and my favourite of all ‘Brief Encounter’.
In 2014, me and my wife went away for a few days for our wedding anniversary. On one of the days we visited the village of Carnforth. More especially Carnforth railway station. This was the location for a number of scenes in Brief Encounter and it was a place I had always wanted to visit. The old station has been restored to it’s former glory and was a great trip back in time. These are few of the pictures from that visit.
An interesting twist to this is that the male lead in Brief Encounter was Trevor Howard, who was the brother of Leslie Howard who played Ashley Wilkes in Gone With The Wind!
It’s been a few weeks since I did the challenge, but this one seems quite straight forward. So here goes. All taken in and around the house.
I’ve missed a couple of these challenges due to not having a photo that fits, but this time I thinks this one works. I got around six or seven images of this fellow. It was is he/she knew I was taking pictures and decided to hang around for a while. Poser !
I’m on holiday this week, so ‘Mrs Me’ and me took a walk into Boston Spa, which was a bit of a treat as we only get a chance to go out during the week when I’m on leave.
We visited a new restaurant/café called the Stew & Oyster, which as it sounds serves Stews and Oysters. Really good value and a great time. I’m not really into eating oysters, unless I can see that they are alive, so I picked a lamb hot-pot. It came with a huge chunk of artisan bread. Very filling indeed!
Oh and for my view on “Trick or Treat” see my previous post.
Just the one this week.

Well! Certainly ‘Ordinary’ But ‘Extraordinary’?
All the photography books and articles I have read, attempt to explain how to avoid ‘Ordinary’. This makes a nice change.
I was thinking of the ‘Happy Places‘ I like to go to in my head, but that didn’t seem practical at all, so here some physical places that make me happy :
Whitby – a place I simply love to be.
Then there is Durham, the land of the Prince Bishops:
And last but not least, Carnforth station. Location for one of the finest British classic films Brief Encounter :
